Saliva is one of the key players in good dental health.

Saliva is the one thing that washes away any food that is on the teeth. It also helps to neutralize any acids that are in the mouth and fights off germs. In helping with these things, it can prevent a person from having bad breath. Bonus fun fact, individuals produces a quart of saliva daily for the length of his or her life.

Your mouth is full of thousands of micro organisms.

Your mouth is home to a host of well over 100,000 micro-creatures. These micro-creatures do all sorts of things inside of your mouth. They swim around, feed, reproduce, and deposit nasty waste in your mouth. Some of these are harmful, and you can prevent more of them by practicing good dental habits. Other bacteria is helpful in the prevention of oral disease, and we are lucky to have them!

If you value your own smile, and want others to value it as much, you need to make sure to brush and floss every day. You should also see the dentist at least once a year. People don’t realize that you should brush your tongue a minimum of once a day. Why should you do this, when you already brush your teeth and floss twice a day? The answer is simple. If you don’t brush your tongue, you can’t kill the bacterial infestation that can live on it, in the very same way it they live on your teeth. Make sure you’re cognizant of the bacteria living on your tongue, and that you clean it the same way you clean your teeth.
